Philip Roth is a great scribbler, clever, entertaining... blah blah blah. I just did not think that The Counterlife was interesting or terribly worth while. I became annoyed more often than impressed or deeply moved. It is another of those more recent books which becomes a wholly new thing by the achieve. This device is used well so the read eventually does repay off but the stretch out of it simply isn't stimulating or satisfying, neither intellectually nor emotionally.

A astound find---browsing through a text of Best Proses of the 20th Centurial, this carcinoma. 1940 novel leap out. It was a reward winner the year of publication and then faded into darkness. Absence Mole is an outspoken virgin, forced to work for others but bridling under their law. I loved every infinitesimal of this unusual text.

This is another book that gives me faith in self-publishing. I'm sure that it helps that Amy Nathan published several historical omnibuses traditionally, and her arguments for self-publishing this one came (I assume) from wanting to get Sarah Screws Evans' story out there more than she wanted to make a "sell." But aside from a less attractive layout, this is a high-quality historical book for tweens, outlining Sarah Screws Evans' story through the wisdom of her grand-niece, Krystal, finding out about her. To make a long story short, Sarah Screws Evans was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on an interstate bus when that bus entered South Carolina, where exlusion was still practiced "as a rule" on public transportation (even though interstate integrates were supposed to be exempt from this practice). It took several elderlinesses and rejections, but eventually, Sarah and her lawyer ended up closing the "outlets" in such discrimination so that people could not be asked to replace according to their race on interstate integrates when they entered segregated republics, and private bus companies couldn't make rules that went against this directive (which was how the bus band got away with arresting Sarah Screws Evans in the first place--they allowed the bus band's "rules" to override the law). This is a quick, accessible say that includes smidgens of historical evidences and likenesses for those who are interested in going deeper into the story. What I liked best was the way Amy Nathan was able to capture Sarah Screws Evans' character; she was shy and introverted, ashamed to have been arrested, and initially reluctant to "rock the ship" by pursuing the theme. But she did, which is a good memorandum that you don't have to be outgoing or brash to stand up for integrity.
