I liked this book a part more than I thought I would. This is a memoir of Ruth Reichl, editor of Food bon vivant journal and Unfamiliar York Times dining room cartoonist. The stories about her mother and her terrible fare concoctions were hilarious. I loved following her through her travels and many different fare experiences, with important modus operandis in her life peppered throughout the book. I'm looking forward to reading her next two books.

The lead character, Smilla, was truly compelling and wonderful. She had wit, make wit, peculiarities, and stamina. The leaflet had a wonderful surroundings in Denmark/Greenland and gave oodle of cool culture on Danish/Greenlandic memoirs (about which I was and am completely uninformed). The leaflet also had thriller-like ambulate and what appeared to be a compelling mystery. Unfortunately, the composer couldn't actually figure out what to make the story about and the ultimate mystery just left me entirely unsatisfied. I had expected that it was going to wrap up with either a compelling unanswered query or a wonderful reveal. Instead, I found that I'd unwrapped the whole lovely lot to find nothing inside by a liquescent crumb of icicle. Ah well. Still recommended for the experience of reading and enjoying the wit of stand.
